Catène de Containers
They look down majestically over the port from on high, greeting the ships that come in. They reign, animating the views from the top of the immense Rue de Paris. Vincent Ganivet has coiled together two monumental arches that sit between city and sea. Like a giant set of building blocks, the artist has assembled a string of multicolored shipping containers.
It is a work of incredible paradoxes, the metallic giants giving off an unalterable impression of lightness. Their hard right angles are defied, alleviated by the curves of the structure. The containers, usually lined up on the cargo ships or neatly stacked on the quays, are upended here. As if seized by a frantic desire for freedom.
